2019 Mediation Practicum: Applications Open Through September 16th!

We are pleased to announce the return of our Mediation Practicum! The Practicum is designed for those who have completed basic mediation training and wish to further enhance their mediation skills in order to become certified mediators. The application is posted here.

The Application Process

The King County Dispute Resolution Center (KCDRC) is offering a Mediation Practicum. To apply, candidates must have completed a 36 – 40 hour basic mediation training. In addition, candidates must complete an application (available here: https://kcdrc.org/training-and-education/become-a-mediator/) and attend an interview. The application is due on September 16, 2019 at 5pm and the Practicum will begin in October 2019. The Practicum takes approximately 18 months to complete and there will be a cost to participate. Admission to the Practicum is competitive. In the past, more people applied than we were able to admit.
Successful candidates typically have basic skills in active listening, understanding and identifying interests, and asking open-ended questions. In addition, the best candidates are team players: flexible, humble, supportive, and willing to learn.

Description of the Practicum

The King County Dispute Resolution Center Practicum is a structured hands-on learning experience that blends classroom instruction with case observation and real mediation. This program is designed to equip you to become a volunteer mediator with the Dispute Resolution Center. However, we also support the learning and development of individuals wishing to gain mediator skills and credentials for their outside practice.

Participants learn and practice concepts introduced in the Basic Mediation Training with greater depth in a small group setting.
